Gucci to Block Scott Movie if it doesn’t Measure Up

Perhaps hardly surprising but it turns out Gucci are not that fussed at Ridley Scott making a film out of the most tumultuous period in their history after all.

It was recently revealed that Scott had designs on Angelina Jolie to play the part of Patrizia Reggiani in his long gestating Gucci exposé (read HERE).

Reggiani was married to Maurizio Gucci, grandson of the fashion giant’s founder Guccio Gucci. Following a spate of vicious in-fighting during the late 1970s-80’s, Reggiani had Maurizio murdered outside his Milan apartment in 1995.

Variety is reporting that Reggiani blames Scott’s wife Giannina Facio for misleading the Gucci family into thinking his film would be a biopic and not spend so much time on the whole backstabbing and death plot instead.

Reggiani told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera:

“Scott had assured us that it would not be a scandalistic movie. This is not an authorised movie and we will try to block it if it is offensive.”

Even if there are ways around this problem for Scott, without full Gucci say-so authentically costuming the film could become a bit of a nightmare. The Gucci clan presumably hold design rights to their back catalogue so it would be difficult to make the picture without them on board – unless enough good condition vintage pieces could be snapped up of course.

Reggiani added:

“Enough mud. We have been through horrible things and paid plenty in person. I will write a book about the Guccis to say who they really are. And I will give Scott a copy, in hopes that his movie will never be released.”

Although Scott only really has to worry that his script stays on point with facts; regardless of how disparaging it might be, Reggiani has little retort to dispute the truth.

Like the Gucci story itself then, the plot thickens…
