Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps – Full Trailer Online | Clothes on Film
Shia LaBeouf runs about in a short leather jacket while Michael Douglas dons the coolest pair of retro shades for, well, this year at least. Welcome to the full international trailer for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. Show me the money trailer HERE This flushes out the previous teaser in greater detail. Now we get a proper idea of the story (Douglas’ Gekko reformed, but not to be trusted) and more glimpses of Carey Mulligan in action as Gekko’s discontented daughter (may have something to do with the actress’ recent Oscar nod). Costume design by Ellen Mirojnick. Directed by Oliver Stone as sequel to his own influential eighties hit Wall…

Costume Stories, This Week: The Winter Soldier and Mad Men | Clothes on Film
That’ll do, costume. That’ll do. Captain America: The Winter Soldier Hello Tailor is stealing away your life with her rundowns of this mildly popular comic book movie. Not all are costume based, though all are worth reading. Here is PART 1. PART 2 PART 3 PART 4! A bit of a stretch, but still an intriguing…

Clothes on Film Shop Directory: Sherlock & Inglourious | Clothes on Film
We get a lot of questions at Clothes on Film about where to buy garments similar to those seen in the movies. We always respond, though being as these are listed as comments you may have missed them. As such here is a brief list of the most commonly requested items and where you might seek them out. It is worth noting that we are not affiliated with any of these companies. We may like some of them, but none are paying us money to send you there. In fact, on arrival, please tell them we sent you. Much obliged. Sherlock Holmes 2: Q&A With Costume Designer Jenny Beavan | Clothes on Film
We have six months to wait until Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes and Jude Law as Doctor Watson hits cinema screens, but in a recent, brief interview with Clothes on Film, costume designer Jenny Beavan exclusively spills the beans on what we can expect to see in the finished movie. In addition to being costume designer on the first Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes adaptation in 2009 (of which you can read more the costumes HERE), Jenny Beavan was also recently Oscar nominated for her work on The Kings Speech. Evidently adept at bringing period clothing to life and broadly interpreting character (just…

Now Thor Costume Leaks: Must Be a Trend | Clothes on Film
Click HERE to see the full images at Collider Okay, this is getting silly. After those Captain America costume pics ‘leaked’ yesterday, here is some similarly early concept art for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. What. A. Coincidence! To be 100% honest it is hard not to raise a smile at these images. The outfit is true to the Marvel comic source (to a degree) and well put together, though the quality of these pics is not doing costume designer Alexandra Byrne’s work a lot of favours. Still, we are in the era of aggressive internet marketing, so released they are, no matter how bizarre digi-Chris Hemsworth standing in the middle of…

Beyond Biba, Beyond Fashion | Clothes on Film
Biba did things differently. It was a shopping revolution. If a Biba sales assistant approached a potential customer browsing and asked “Can I help you?” they would have been fired on the spot. Biba was unique. Topshop is not Biba. Beyond Biba: A Portrait of Barbara Hulanicki (directed by Louis Price, 2009) is exactly that; a relatively short (56 minutes) but detailed look at a woman defined by the brand she created. This is a patient story, surprising in parts but mostly just enlightening. There is much to learn from this film, although it never feels as though you are being lectured. The innovative fashion and lifestyle brand Biba was…

Costume Stories, This Week: Grace of Monaco & Penny Dreadful | Clothes on Film
Some costume links to delight and amuse. Game of Thrones A preview of Daenerys’ ‘cruel dress’ revealed in this week’s episode. Judging from the pic it looks to be a sexual tease of some sort. Poor Jorah. Grace of Monaco Gigi Lepage talks about her work on the film that is delighting audiences at Cannes. Ahem. Seriously though do check out the costumes because they look beautifully designed and made, and in some cases recreated. Penny Dreadful Sky Atlantic’s brilliant new horror series starts next week in the UK. Here’s a spoiler free interview with the show’s costume designer Gabriella Pescucci. The Talented Mr Ripley Sophia Shillito’s well observed look…

Become The Babadook | Clothes on Film
On the surface the Babadook is just another bogeyman: prickly, sinewy, all arched limbs and spiky digits. And this is the point: he is just another bogeyman; it is what he represents that really matters. Without spoiling too much, The Babadook is larger than life because he is the exaggerated physical manifestation of our demons. In this respect he could look like anyone – wherever our fears lead. Nonetheless for the purposes of dressing up as the Babadook for this Halloween, and having anyone actually guess who you are, the following is required: top hat, cape and some pointy things to stick on your fingers. To achieve maximum scare, however,…
