X-Men: Days of Future Past Pics – 1973 Xavier, Hank & Logan | http://clothesonfilm.net
Director Bryan Singer has tweeted a revealing photograph of James McAvoy in costume as Charles Xavier on set of X-Men: Days of Future Past. UPDATE (13/05/13): And now he has added another pic, this time of Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Days of Future Past is based on an Uncanny X-Men story published in 1981; part of the story takes place during 1973, part in the future as the original X-Men cast zip through time to stop the world being attacked by mutant sentinels. Xavier seems to be nursing a hippie hangover in this photo, somewhat reminiscent of a scruffier John Tavolta in Saturday Night Fever, although Singer himself used the hashtag #serpico. As for Hank and Logan, it’s brown, corduroy, patterns, blue, huge belt buckles and more brown. They compliment each other well.
McAvoy looks to be wearing a fitted geometric or floral pattern shirt, snug brown kick-flare pants and brown leather, possibly two-tone (though it could be a trick of the light) shoes. Top that off with long straggly hair and a clipped beard and it seems suited, bald Professor X (as represented by Patrick Stewart) is a good tailor and trip to the barber’s away yet. However, costume designer Louise Mingenbach is creating clothes for both incarnations of the man, in effect costuming two separate periods that come together, so we will get to see the before and after Xavier as it were. Obviously the same goes for Hank too and Logan – only the latter with the same actor of course.
Louise Mingenbach worked on X-Men, X2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but not The Last Stand or 1960s set X-Men: First Class. Bryan Singer has already tweeted photos of Halle Berry as future Storm, Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde and Jackman’s Logan aka Wolverine. Singer must enjoy teasing as we have over a year to wait for the finished film. Mingenbach’s other well-known franchise The Hangover comes to a close this month when Part III hits cinemas on the 23rd. Expect Zach Galifianakis rocking double denim and Bradley Cooper in Ray-Ban Aviators, but probably no-one sporting a floral shirt and cord hip-huggers.
X-Men: Days of Future Past is due for release on 18th July 2014.
