Datejust | Clothes on Film
It’s the most celebrated, the most special, the most significant watch of all time; Rolex is symbolic of many things in the movies: style, wealth, attitude, and perhaps most importantly, taste. That is not to say a Rolex is elitist, but rather that the wearer on screen, anyone from James Bond to Steve McQueen, is someone possessed of the knowledge that there is no better. Rolex is the pinnacle. The history of Rolex on film is not nearly as interesting as the scope of its wearers and how this simple act of either subtle or ostentatious display can define character. Take James Bond, a man whose breeding was forced upon…

driving gloves | Clothes on Film
Stone slacks, leather cardigan, pale denim – who wouldn’t want to dress like Alan Partridge? This may be dad brand clothing, but it announces you as the most confident man in the room. Driving gloves? That’s nothing. Try removing your coat and jacket then leaving the driving gloves until last. That takes guts, or failing that a complete lack of personal awareness. In other words it takes a Partridge. Steve Coogan co-created and has played sports-journalist-turned-chat-show-host-turned-DJ Alan Partridge on and off for 22 years. Nothing his character wears is random. For costume designer Julian Day (Berberian Sound Studio, Rush), working alongside perfectionist Coogan on Alpha Papa must have been a……

Mad Men: Christina Hendricks' Op Art Blue Dress (Season 1) | Clothes on Film
As office vamp Joan Holloway, Christina Hendricks gets the lion’s share of provocative outfits on 1960s set TV drama Mad Men. And although her delectable figure is probably more curvy fifties than straight-up-and-down sixties, Christina rocks this dress like it was made especially for her. This particular outfit is actually a break from her character’s norm. It’s brighter, younger and trendier than Joan’s typical attire. Still sexy, but fun with it; evocative of a time when the division between formal and casual clothes was collapsing for good: Medium blue dress finishing just below the knee, fitted bodice, buttons to low-waist seam. Cap sleeves, low square neckline with grey/white/red tartan print…

Arthur: Trailer No. 2. Brace Yourself | Clothes on Film – Part 19657
A second trailer for Arthur featuring a topper donned Russell Brand and cardigan wearing Helen Mirren has arrived. Can the film possibly be as likeable as this footage implies? Arthur is a remake of the much loved 1981 movie of the same name starring Dudley Moore. When this idea was announced in 2008 it is fair to say most folk dismissed it as another pointless rehash. Yet, judging by this and the recently released first trailer, it could be a lot of silly, if ultimately pointless fun. Brand as Arthur really does look superb, too. Costume designer Juliet Polcsa (Brooklyn’s Finest, 79 episodes of The Sopranos) and director Jason Winer…
