Full The Dark Knight Rises Trailer Hits: Merry Christmas | Clothes on Film
Christmas comes early for anyone looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises (that’s all of us then); as Warner Bros. has released a full trailer telling us absolutely everything we need to know before the film hits cinemas next July, i.e. nothing.
This is not quite true; the trailer is a good one. It tantalises without giving anything much away regarding plot that we do not already know. Gotham is on the eve of a revolution, hinted at by sultry Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), aka Catwoman, and seemingly instigated by the near silent menace of Bane (Tom Hardy). It is an uprising against the privileged and decadent, something that has always been a popular theme in the Batman mythology.
Costume designer for The Dark Knight Rises, Lindy Hemming, has already spoken about Bane’s face mask; it is breathing apparatus for a painkilling gas. Here we also get a metaphoric nod toward Catwoman’s mask at what appears to be a masquerade ball, plus Selina sporting an Audrey Hepburn-esque wide brim hat and black suit. For Bane there is plenty of that full-length sheepskin coat that is swiftly becoming synonymous with the character. Also the Batman himself (Christian Bale), whose costume may or may not be more bulked up than the previous film (the shoulders resemble RoboCop) – we shall have to wait and see.
Providing you avoid blinking for two minutes you’ll not miss Marion Cotillard as Miranda Tate, aka Talia al Ghul (surely she must be?) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake, a Gotham beat cop assigned to Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman). There is a flying ‘Batwing’ type contraption as well, but we will leave that for the tech sites to decipher. Long story short, watch the trailer and smile broadly as it looks as though director Christopher Nolan has everything firmly in hand. Merry Christmas.
The Dark Knight Rises is released on 20th July.
