Hot Tub Time Machine Trailer: Colourful Past | Clothes on Film
Frankie Says Watch the HD trailer (redband too) HERE Surely worth a look for eighties fans, the trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine starring John Cusack recently arrived on the web. It’s Back to the Future, for drunk guys. The plot for Hot Tub Time Machine is completely mental and probably wouldn’t be attracting any internet attention were it not for the noteworthy cast involved (meaning Cusack and eighties survivor Chevy Chase). It does seem like an amusing idea however. A group of middle aged guys take leave of their boring lives for a wild night of drinking in a ski resort Jacuzzi. They get completely sozzled, fall asleep and…

Sean Parker’s wedding Costume design – that’s right – costume design by Ngila Dickson (The Lord…

Daniel Craig | Clothes on Film
We chat about why James Bond wearing a Tom Ford suit is almost a waste of time for the From Tailors with Love podcast. It’s the most celebrated, the most special, the most significant watch of all time; Rolex is symbolic of many things in the movies: style, wealth, attitude, and perhaps most importantly, taste. That is not to say a Rolex is elitist, but rather that the wearer on screen, anyone from James Bond to Steve McQueen, is someone possessed of the knowledge that there is no better. Rolex is the pinnacle. The history of Rolex on film is not nearly as interesting as the scope of its wearers…

The Post Trailer Debuts: Ann Roth sets the Tone | Clothes on Film
Costume designer Ann Roth, arguably one of the greatest of her craft still working in Hollywood, has costumed director Steven Spielberg’s latest The Post, and by the looks of this first trailer we are in for a muted treat: What we have are gentlemen sporting classic collar points with moderate spread, sometimes short sleeve (always with a chest pocket – a very American touch) and medium breadth neckties. The occasional kipper, but this 1971 is a very different world than, say, The Deuce (costume designer Anna Terrazas). Most of the male cast are are old school in their style of dress. The 1960s is far from leaving their wardrobes. As…

Emilio Pucci | Clothes on Film
MINOR SPOILERS First Man (2018) is not a movie overly preoccupied with fashion, And why would it be? The focus of the story is astronaut Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling) and his journey to become the first person to ever walk on the surface of the moon. Armstrong wears a lot of button down shirts, short sleeve checks, neutral slacks, the odd dark single breasted suit for formal occasions – largely dour attire for a dour man. He also wears a space suit, several of them. However, outside of Emilio Pucci’s involvement in designing the logo for the Apollo 15 flight in 1971, fashion rarely intersects with the requirements of surviving……

Style Icon of the Season: Cousin Eddie in Christmas Vacation | Clothes on Film
He is the whitest of the white trash, the kind of man who dumps raw sewage in a storm drain and kidnaps your boss as a Christmas present. And the only man to ever combine a leather belt with a bathrobe. Randy Quaid has played lovable moocher ‘Cousin Eddie’ in four separate National Lampoon films, but his most famous performance still resides at yuletide. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989, directed by Jeremiah C. Chechik) has weathered years of apathy to become something of a seasonal favourite. Watching Chevy Chase’s bipolar family man Clark Griswold lose his rag every December is now a festive tradition . Yet Clark is not really…

Drive: Red Band Trailer. Amazing | Clothes on Film
Clothes on Film really has nothing to say about this red band trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn’s retro thriller Drive. Except that we are desperate to get our eyes on Erin Benach’s costume design. The white quilted bomber jacket worn by Ryan Gosling’s ‘driver’ is intriguing enough, but what about the gloves? According to journalist and costume aficionado Guy Lodge, who has already seen Drive at Cannes, “It is really a film *about* gloves”. We’re fascinated already. Drive is released on 23rd September. Get behind us in the queue. © 2011 – 2018, Lord Christopher Laverty.
