Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows: Costume Round Up: Part 1 |

Without pretending this will be as exhaustive as the Clothes on Film costume guide (parts ONE and TWO) for Sherlock Holmes (2009), here we go with a lighter, though still hopefully informative analysis of its sequel, A Game of Shadows (2011, directed by Guy Ritchie). Again the film’s costume designer has lent a hand, and again Oscar winner Jenny Beavan needs no further introduction. So not pausing for backstory or padding and on the assumption of spoilers ahead, let us begin… John Watson (Jude Law) is introduced first sitting at his desk in a grey herringbone tweed waistcoat, white striped stiff collar shirt and brown patterned necktie. Gore Verbinski was contractually obliged to leave the project after BioShock changed filming locations in order to curb escalating costs. He is currently directing animated feature Rango for Paramount. Developed by 2K Boston/2K Australia, BioShock is an immersive first person shooter set inside the underwater city of rapture – a dreamy utopian Eden turned blood-soaked nightmare though the abuse of genre-altering plasmids mined via the sea bed. Roger Moore’s Plaid Jacket in The Man with the Golden Gun |

© 2011, Clothes on Film 5 Oct ’11 During his twelve year stint as James Bond 007, Roger Moore wore some exceedingly contemporary costumes, perhaps none more so than his shocking plaid jacket from The Man with the Golden Gun. Think Lulu’s theme song is the loudest thing in the movie? Think again. The Man with the Golden Gun arrived in cinemas Christmas, 1974, a year after the release of Live and Let Die. Audiences and critics gave the film a lukewarm response. Its muddled plot and over-reliance on situation comedy was grating and despite the imposing presence of Christopher Lee as Bond’s nemesis Francisco Scaramanga a.k.a. The Man with…
